Book: Museums and Collections for Beginners

My new book, Citizen Curators: A Guide to Museums and Collections for Beginners was published by South Kerrier Heritage Trust under the imprint of the Museum of Cornish Life in 2025 and is available for free download and distribution.

The book is a simple and easy to follow guide for anyone new to museums but curious to learn more about how they work and their fundamental principles and ethics.

Full of practical tips, little quizzes and ideas you can debate with friends, fellow students or colleagues, the book is aimed at new volunteers, trustees and staff starting out or wanting to refresh their knowledge.

Citizen Curators was developed following extensive research and teaching of the Citizen Curators curatorial training programme 2017-2021. This course was delivered through the Curatorial Research Centre across seven Cornish museums, including the Museum of Cornish Life, and was supported by Cornwall Museums Partnership, Esmee Fairbairn Collections Fund and Arts Council England.
